Root Traits and Erosion Resistance of Three Endemic Grasses for Estuarine Sand Drift Control

چکیده
In southern Taiwan, rivers sporadically cease to flow and dry up in winter. The exposed riverbeds are very vulnerable wind erosion. strong northeast monsoon often induces serious estuarine sand drift fugitive dust, which cause damages agricultural crops, human health infrastructures. Giant reed (Arundo formosana), common (Phragmite australis) the wild sugarcane (Saccharum spontaneum) pioneer grass species estuary areas. They have great potential reduce erosion control windblown dust on lands. Nevertheless, their root traits, biomechanical characteristics resistance not been investigated. this research, traits were investigated utilizing hand digging technique WinRHIZOPro System. Root pullout tensile strength estimated using vertical tests. Wind tunnel tests executed evaluate six-month-old plants. results demonstrated that growth performance functional of S. spontaneum superior those A. formosana P. australis. Additionally, anchorage ability plants notably greater than australis Furthermore, showed is remarkably higher This study demonstrates australis, considering ability, resistance. Taken together, our suggest favorable for riverbed planting, while A.formosana applicable riverbank planting These results, together with data acclimation grasses waterlogged soils brackish waters, provide vital information designing strategies ecological engineering control.

The study of proportional relationships between size, shape, and function of part of or the whole organism is traditionally known as allometry. Examination of correlative changes in the size of interbranch distances (IBDs) at different root orders may help to identify root branching rules. Due to population growth, global warming, changing precipitation patterns, and decreasing precipitation, water and soil are two of the most important human issues. Water and soil resources management in arid and semi-arid regions is one of the methods that can solve water and soil issues. Covering the soil surface with permeable natural materials can reduce water and wind erosion and evaporatio...

15 صفحه اولDimensionless correlation for sand erosion of families of polymers
A single correlation for sand erosion of a “family” of polyurethanes is presented. By “family” is meant a group of chemically similar compounds. For the first time, an implication of Truesdell’s [1] observations regarding the number of dimensional parameters in viscoelastic constitutive equations has been used together with the Pi theorem to prepare a single dimensionless correlation for a grou...
